Chapter 22

Shafer and Beckworth walked up the university sidewalk and stood next to the peace monument. Shafer glanced around to make sure they were alone and said, “This will work. We’ll do it here.”

Beckworth nodded. He pulled a small, unlined notebook from his inside breast pocket along with a pen and wrote the starting time on the top of the page: 9:40 a.m.

Shafer instructed, “Begin. Implant the thoughts now.”

Beckworth spoke as he quickly wrote. “Headache. Aneurysm. Blood vessel. Burst.”

Shafer added, “In your mind, see her brain hemorrhaging. See her collapsing. Now, see her dead. Visualize it and solidify it.”

Suddenly, Beckworth’s pen stopped writing, and he looked at Shafer. “She blocked me.”

Both men looked toward the Archaeological building. “Let’s go,” said Shafer. “We’ve got to find her before she gets away.”

The two men quickened their pace as they hurried up the sidewalk. At the bottom of the steps, Shafer discreetly pulled a Ruger .38 Special from his shoulder holster and spun the barrel to make sure it was fully loaded. “Since you weren’t able to Remote View her effectively, we’re going to have to go to plan B.” He shoved the gun back in its holster. “Shoot to kill.”
